FOSTER HIGH SCHOOL FALCON BAND
COLOR GUARD / WINTER GUARD

The following is an overview of what you will need to know to become a member
of the Foster High School Color Guard / Winter Guard.

WHAT IS COLOR GUARD / WINTER GUARD?

The Color Guard is a part of the Foster High School Marching Band program.  The purpose of the Color Guard to the Marching Band is to visually enhance the music and add color to the drill in our marching drill through the use of Flags, Rifles, Sabers, and other equipment.  This is done in the Fall Semester (Aug-Dec).  The Winter Guard is the same unit moving in-doors and competing as a separate unit in the Texas Color Guard Circuit. This is done in the Spring Semester (Jan-May).  As you can see, it is an All-Year commitment.

COLOR GUARD / WINTER GUARD
 CLINIC / TRY-OUTS

There will be a clinic at the end of the spring semester which will give detailed information about the Color Guard and training in the basic flag technical skills that each person will need to try-out.  The try-out procedure will be explained in full and each student will be taught a short try-out routine to perform for a group of judges.  The date of this clinic and try-out will be posted on the Band webpage: www.fhsband.net.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothing, NO Jeans, preferably shorts, tennis shoes.  The Clinic and the Try-out will be in the Foster High School Band Hall.

COLOR GUARD / WINTER GUARD
 EQUIPMENT AND EXPENSES

Expenses for the color guard/winter guard are for the members costuming.  All
other equipment will be purchased by the Band program.  The purchase of equipment will be handled through the Band office.  No shopping required.

COLOR GUARD SCHEDULE

All of the Color Guard camps are run by the Guard officers and Guard clinicians we will bring in to help out guard with their routines for the fall. ALL of our camps and rehearsals are mandatory for those who are going to participate in the Color Guard / Winter Guard.

As you can see, we have a very busy schedule.  I hope the information in this letter will help answer any questions you might have regarding the Color Guard / Winter Guard at Foster High School.  If you have any additional questions, feel free to call the FHS Band Hall at 832-223-3961.

Please sign the attached form and return it on or before your try-out date.
